Your first 24 hours with Media Fortress

New account? Here is exactly what to do first, in the right order — and what to ignore until later.

Category: Getting Started Difficulty: Easy Time: ~15 minutes Updated: Aug 2026

Welcome aboard. When your hosting account is created we send an Account Information email containing your logins, nameservers and mail settings. That email is the single most important thing in your inbox right now — find it, and ideally forward it somewhere safe.

Three logins, three different jobs

  • Client portal (my.mediafortress.com.au) — invoices, renewals, domains, support tickets
  • cPanel — your hosting control panel: files, databases, email accounts, backups
  • Webmail — reading a mailbox in a browser
These passwords are all different. More than half of our "my password doesn't work" tickets are someone using the portal password in cPanel, or the cPanel password on a mailbox.

Do these in order

1

Find your Account Information email

Search your inbox for "Account Information". It contains your cPanel username, your temporary password, your nameservers, and where your mail settings live. If you cannot find it, email support from your registered address and we will resend it.

2

Log in to the client portal and set up 2FA

Go to my.mediafortress.com.au, log in, and turn on two-factor authentication under your profile. This account controls your domains and billing — it is worth the extra thirty seconds.

3

Log in to cPanel and change the temporary password

Your Account Information email links straight to cPanel. Log in, then use Password & Security to set your own password. Never leave the temporary one in place.

4

Point your domain at us (if it is not already)

If your domain is registered elsewhere, update its nameservers to the ones in your Account Information email. See Pointing your domain to our nameservers. Allow a few hours for the change to take effect.

Do this before moving email. Changing nameservers redirects both your website and your mail. If you have an existing mailbox elsewhere, make sure everything is copied across first.
5

Create your email addresses

In cPanel, open Email Accounts and add the addresses you need — info@, accounts@, one per staff member. Then set them up on your devices using Manage → Connect Devices, which shows the exact settings for your domain.

6

Upload or install your website

Building on WordPress? Use the one-click installer in cPanel. Moving an existing site? See Moving your website to us — or just ask us, since migration is free and we do it all day.

What you can safely ignore for now

cPanel shows dozens of icons and most of them you will never touch. Ignore Cron Jobs, Ruby/Python selectors, Remote MySQL and anything under Advanced until you have a specific reason. The four sections above cover ninety-nine percent of normal use.

When to email us instead

Migrating a live site with email, moving DNS for a business that cannot afford downtime, or anything you would rather not break — send it to support@mediafortress.com.au. Migration is included, and doing it for you is faster than talking you through it.
